When kids come into your store, are you excited, or do you feel dismayed that they are customers that demand a lot of attention, but usually pick something low-cost? If you think about the latter, think again; kids are great customers. They are open to new styles, multiple pairs of frames, and getting them introduced to your store at an early age can pay off as they will continue to come back for years to come, along with their friends and families. Here are some tips to help kids find the right pair of glasses.

Entertain them

Toys and puzzles in the kids waiting area can help calm their nerves and keep them busy until you can attend to them.

Have a wide selection

Some kids are active, some kids are into computers, some girls like to be a princess. Have a wide selection of branded and non-branded frames to give something for everyone.

Offer a warranty

Since kids can be harder on their frames than adults, offer a comprehensive warranty plan. This will ease parents' concerns, and maybe convince them to purchase a more upscale frame for their child.

Have frames that mimic their adult counterparts

Some brands, like Guess, offer a junior version of their line. Others, like Bratz are embellished with rhinestones and logos, just like frames older girls wear.

Don't make assumptions

Just because a kid might look like they want a toy-like frame doesn't mean they will balk at a more grown-up look. Have the child try on a variety of frames to see what works best for them.

Don't forget about lenses

Photochromic lenses, anti-reflection and UV coatings should all be a part of your presentation when offering glasses to kids and their parents. Make sure to provide their parents with information on high-quality lenses and coatings.
